WELCOME!
In 1979, Bob Mace, then Deputy Director of the Oregon
Department of Fish and Wildlife, coined the phrase "Watchable
Wildlife" and permanently changed the way many people think
of small animals and birds, from robins and raccoons to salamanders
and frogs. With the growth of the Watchable Wildlife movement in
the United States, many state and federal agencies have created
programs and designated sites for people to learn about and view
wildlife. This web site
contains a brief history of the origin of the Watchable Wildlife in Oregon and nationally and directs those interested in using their passion for watching wildlife for science that benefits Oregon's wildlife.
